KUALA LUMPUR: Taekwondo exponent Nur Dhia Liyana Shaharuddin, who has landed in hot water over the alleged assault of a senior citizen, is not a member of the national team.
That was the response from Taekwondo Malaysia (TM) technical director R. Dhanaraj when asked about Nur Dhia, who won a silver medal at the 2017 Sea Games.
Nur Dhia, 25, was ordered by the Civil Sessions Court last Tuesday to make a public apology to a 71-year-old partially blind and deaf man for allegedly assaulting him two years ago.
Dhanaraj said as Nur Dhia is not in their training programe, she is no longer a national athlete.
“She’s not with our programme anymore and if I’m not mistaken, she left after the 2017 Sea Games in Kuala Lumpur,” he said.
“To my knowledge, she’s not a member of any of our affiliates too.”
Placid P. Rodriguez had filed a lawsuit against Nur Dhia for allegedly assaulting him at a LRT station on July 6, 2017.
