Three-gold haul by swimmers in AYPG

THE Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM) are pleased with the national swimmers' impressive form at the Asian Youth Para Games (AYPG) in Bahrain.

The contingent have so far secured three gold, four silver and three bronze and are 10th overall.

The gold medals were won by swimmers Zy Kher Lee (men's 200m freestyle S1-5), Ong Jia Xuan (women's 100m breaststroke SB4-9) and table tennis player Gloria Gracia Wong (SF9-10).

PCM secretary-general First Admiral (Rtd) Datuk Subramaniam Raman Nair believes they can still add to their tally on the final day.

"Kher Lee, Jia Xuan and Gloria all did well to win gold in their respective events," said Subramaniam yesterday.

"Kher Lee is only 15 and is one of our rising stars. He also won a silver (50m butterfly s2-7) and bronze (200m individual medley SM5-10) here.

"After the AYPG, we will analyse our performance in Bahrain and release the information hopefully by tomorrow (today)."

Jia Xuan secured a silver via the 200m individual medley (SM5-10), while Gloria also bagged a bronze in the doubles (TF6-10) with Mary Eloise Sable of the Philippines.

The other medals were delivered by Nur Rohadatul Syuhada Yunus, who won silver in the women's shot put (F40-46) and Heronlee Wong, who secured bronze in the men's javelin (F37).

Brady Chin secured a bronze in the men's table tennis singles event (SM9).

Powerlifters Saiful Riduan Yusof, who clinched silver in the men's Under-54kg class, and Shahmim Kadri, who took bronze in the Under-49kg class, also finished on the podium in their respective events.
