KUALA LUMPUR: After taking a three-year break due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the highly popular IJM Allianz Duo Highway Challenge is set to make a full-scale comeback this year.
The Challenge features two separate runs, the Besraya Highway Challenge which will be held on May 21 followed by the NPE Highway Challenge on July 9.
The normal format event was not organised between 2020-2022 due to the pandemic though a virtual challenge was held in 2021.
Roughly 15,000 people are expected to participate in both events this year. International runners are expected to make up 15 per cent of the field.
Title sponsors IJM and Allianz Malaysia Berhad are hoping to promote a healthy lifestyle via the event.
Allianz Malaysia chief executive officer Sean Wang said: "We hope this event will excite avid runners and fuel their competitive spirit.
"At the same time, we hope to inspire Malaysians from all walks of life to start running and start getting active again by taking up this unique challenge."
The Besraya Highway Challenge will feature two categories, 6km open and 13km, while the NPE Highway Challenge will feature three categories, 5km fun run, 10km and 21km. Various age categories are available.
