PHNOM PENH: Temperatures pushing above 40 degrees Celsius in Phnom Penh are one of the Malaysian contingent's biggest concerns at this year's SEA Games, as the heat recorded at several main venues, including Morodok Techo Stadium, could affect the health of athletes and officials.
Early observations also found that dry and hazy conditions could be a problem in the later stages of the competition, and athletes have already been advised to stay indoors to avoid falling sick.
The extreme conditions are also affecting media practitioners who are in the capital covering the biennial games.
To add to everyone's woes, transportation is another major problem for those commuting to and from the venues.
Malaysian Chef de Mission Datuk Mohd Nasir Ali said the national contingent have been advised to take precautions to stay healthy.
"We don't want the heat and extreme conditions here to affect our athletes. We want them to be able to give their best.
"Our medical team here are also on high alert and are ready to be called to action if need be."
