KUALA LUMPUR: Asian champion S. Sivasangari was on fire as she upset world No. 15 Sabrina Sobhy to qualify for the semi-finals of the Hong Kong Football Club (HKFC) Open today.
The seventh seed, who defeated the American11-6, 11-8, 7-11, 11-7, will face second seed Sarah Jane Perry of England for a place in the final tomorrow.
The 33-year-old Perry defeated fifth seed Melissa Alves of France 3-11, 11-7, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8.
However, national No. 2 Rachel Arnold's fine run ended in the quarter-finals.
Rachel, who upset eight seed Fayrouz Aboelkheir of Egypt in the second round, went down fighting to world junior champion Amina Orfi of Egypt 11-8, 2-11, 12-14, 2-11.
Amina will face top seed Georgina Kennedy of England, who beat Tomato Ho of Hong Kong 11-5, 11-6, 11-6.
In the men's competition, national No. 1 Ng Eain Yow sealed his place in the last four with a hard fought 8-11, 11-3, 11-4, 11-2 win over sixth seed Gregoire Marche of France. The Asian champion will take on top seed Mohamed El Sherbini of Egypt in the final.
