KUALA LUMPUR: Pistol shooter Nurul Syasya Nadiah Arifin rewrote two national records in the Tun Tan Siew Sin Trophy at the National Shooting Range in Subang on Friday.
Syasya, representing Malaysian Universities (Masum), broke the women's 10m air pistol individual record of 576 set by Selangor's Dina Batrisya Adi Azhar last September, by amassing 579 points in the qualifying rounds.
However, in the final, Syasya only managed seventh spot with 131.8 points.
Dina Batrisya won gold with 236.1 points, while compatriot Ong Ee Theng (231.2) took silver. Pahang's Wan Nur Afiqah Wan Haneef garnered 211.1 points to settle for bronze.
Nurul Syasya combined with Anis Ayuni Ahmad Khairi and Nur Batrisya Nasuha Nur Hadi to break the air pistol team record by three points with a score of 1702.
The 21-year-old Syasya said although she did not win the individual event, she was delighted with her record-breaking efforts.
"Today, I improved my personal best by five points in the qualifying round.
However, I did not perform well in the individual final.
"I did not expect the team record as we are a new combination," Syasya.
