KUALA LUMPUR: KL Tigers emerged champions of the Selangor State Sports Council-Selangor Rugby Union League after downing Cobra 25-19 in the final today.
Matthew Thorp and Adam Ruzaiman scored tries for the Tigers, while Jason Matthews split the sticks for them at the TUDM Stadium in Subang.
Kalolo Joephi Pama was the standout man for Cobra, with Isyraf Mohd Razif converting the former's tries.
Cobra featured a number of current and former national team players in their side, including Amin Jamaluddin, Alif Ikhmal Noor Hisham and Syabil Laila.
The third-place playoff saw UiTM Lions edging RMAF Blackhawks 27-25 in a close fought encounter.
The Selangor League has given Malaysia's top clubs the chance to continue competing following the discontinuation of the Malaysia Rugby League (MRL).
MRL, known as the Super League in its earlier years, was last held in 2019.
