KUALA LUMPUR: The poster of national athletes that had gone viral for the wrong reasons recently was made by fans and not the sporting authorities.
The poster featured passport photos of all 26 national athletes that will compete at the Paris Olympics (Jul 26-Aug 11) and was uploaded on X by user Giarc Nibisna.
The poster's appearance drew widespread criticism online as many thought it was done by the authorities, with some wrongly linking it to the Youth and Sports Ministry as well as the Olympic Council of Malaysia.
The user who uploaded the poster, however, said it was not an official poster.
"Yes, it is not an official poster. It is just fan-made," the user told Kosmo! yesterday.
It is understood that the pictures in the poster were taken from the official website of the Paris Olympics. The photos are also used for the athletes' accreditation cards.
