KUALA LUMPUR: National swimmer Tan Rouxin won her heat but it was not enough to see her advance in the women's 100m breaststroke event at the Paris Olympics today.
Rouxin, who was making her Olympic debut, clocked one minute and 12.50 seconds to finish the fastest swimmer in her heat at the Paris La Defense Arena.
It, however, was only enough to place her 33rd from 37 swimmers in the preliminaries and thus she missed the top-16 cut for the semi-finals.
Rouxin's time was over a second off her personal best of 1:11.02s in the event.
South Africa's Tatjana Smith topped the timesheets on 1:05s flat while China's Tang Qianting (1:05.63s) and Ireland's Mona McSharry (1:05.74s) were second and third fastest in the preliminaries.
Malaysia's participation in the swimming competition has thus come to an end.
Khiew Hoe Yean, the only other Malaysian swimmer in Paris, competed in the men's 400m freestyle yesterday and also did not make it past the preliminaries.
Hoe Yean, 21, and Rouxin, 18, both received universality places, better known as wildcards, to compete in Paris.
