Tang Jie-Ee Wei prep for Korean showdown

KUALA LUMPUR: Today is a rest day for Chen Tang Jie, but don't expect the mixed doubles shuttler to take a stroll along the Seine river. Much of his time is spent on preparing for the Olympic quarter-final against South Korea's world No 8 Kim Won Ho-Jeong Na Eun tomorrow.

"Today is a rest day, but there's still a training session in the morning. Later in the afternoon (Toh) Ee Wei and I will have a discussion about our strategy against the South Koreans."

World No. 9 Tang Jie-Ee Wei have topped Group D after winning all their three matches, the highlight of which was a stunning win over China's world No 2 Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping yesterday.

Tang Jie, 26, said the support from the National Sports Institute (NSI) and the Malaysian secretariat in Paris has been second to none, and this has helped him and Ee Wei bring out their best on the court.

"We don't have to worry about food, there's many support staff here ready to assist us.

"We have also sat down with NSI performance analyst Nur Zubillah Azis to help analyse our game," the Perakian added.

Yesterday, Ee Wei said NSI mental health officer Lim Jun Xuan was also helping them to gel better as a pair.

When Tang Jie-Ee Wei left for the Paris Olympics, not much was expected of them; but now they are even seen as medal contenders after their Group D exploits.
