KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians will be glued to their TV screens on day nine of the Paris Olympics today, with women's badminton doubles Pearly Tan- M. Thinaah out to make history.
At 9:00pm, Pearly-Thinaah will face Japan's Nami Matsuyama-Chiharu Shida in the bronze medal match, seeking to win Malaysia's first medal of the Paris Games.
In golf, Gavin Green will continue his quest in the third round, teeing off at 3:00pm.
Malaysian sprinter Azeem Fahmi will compete in the men's 100m preliminary round at 4:35pm.
Sailors Nur Shazrin Latif and Khairulnizam Afendy will also be in action, with Shazrin competing in races 4-6 from 6:05pm, and Khairulnizam taking part in races 5-6 from 6:20pm.
A total of 31 medal events across a variety of sports will be on offer today, including diving, swimming, surfing, boxing, athletics, fencing, artistic gymnastics, badminton, judo, shooting, sailing, table tennis, men's road race, rowing and equestrian.
Yesterday, French swimming sensation Leon Marchand continued to dominate the pool, delighting the home fans.
In tennis, Novak Djokovic broke his Olympic semi-final jinx with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Italy's Lorenzo Musetti, and setting up a much-anticipated gold medal showdown against Spain's Carlos Alcaraz.
The 37-year-old Serb, who previously lost in three Olympic singles semi-finals, was on a roll at Roland Garros.
In the medal standings, China lead with 13 gold, nine silver and nine bronze. Hosts France follow with 11 gold, 12 silver, and 13 bronze while Australia round out the top three with 11 gold, six silver and five bronze.
