CLIMBING MAGIC
Fans came to watch the queen of sport climbing perform her magic and Slovenia's Janja Garnbret did not disappoint as she finished top of the women's boulder semi-finals in style.
SERENA WILLIAMS
A luxury Parisian hotel has apologised to tennis great Serena Williams after she complained, in a social media post seen by millions, that she and her family were turned away from its restaurant on Monday.
The Peninsula Paris, a five-star hotel, said its rooftop bar and gourmet restaurant with a view of the Eiffel tower had been fully booked.
CANOE SPRINT
New Zealand's five-times Olympic champion Lisa Carrington got a
winning start
but Denmark's world champions Emma Jorgensen and Frederikke Matthiesen were knocked out as canoe sprint events got under way at Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium.
BASKETBALL
Germany overcame a sleepy start to ease past Greece 76-63 and become the first team through to the

of the Olympic men's basketball tournament.
ATHLETICS
Bahamian Shaunae Miller-Uibo's 400 metres Olympic title defence ended on Tuesday as she finished last in the repechage after struggling through the heat with an apparent injury.
The 30-year-old was on the hunt for a third straight gold but pulled up midway through her preliminary race and walked the remainder of the way.
SHOWJUMPING GOLD
Germany's Christian Kukuk with his grey gelding Checker 47 won Olympic gold in individual showjumping with a flawless ride in the final jump-off between the three best riders.
Kukuk's win, which followed Germany's golds in individual eventing and dressage plus the dressage team competition, cemented their standing as the leading equestrian nation.
TAIWAN TAKES ON BOXING FEDERATION
Taiwan's Sports Administration protested on Tuesday against the International Boxing Association's (IBA) stance on a gender dispute involving one of its fighters at the Paris Games, saying its Olympic committee was considering filing a lawsuit.
The IBA, in a chaotic press conference, said on Monday that Lin Yu-ting had been disqualified from the 2023 World Championships after a sex chromosome test ruled her ineligible.
Algeria's Imane Khelif, the other boxer at the centre of the gender eligibility dispute, is due to fight in a semi-final later on Tuesday in the women's 66kg category.
The International Olympic Committee said it would love to have boxing at the Los Angeles 2028 Games but first needs to see the creation of a new global governing body for the sport.
RIVER WOES
The marathon swimming familiarisation session scheduled for Tuesday in the river Seine has been cancelled because of water pollution concerns, the international federation said.
Open-water swimmers are hoping to plunge into the Seine for 10km marathon races on Thursday and Friday but pollution readings will have the final say.
SURFING TO VICTORY
Was it the local knowledge? Tahitian Kauli Vaast surfed a near perfect final to claim the gold medal for France in the men's event at Teahupo'o on Monday, leaving Australian tube-riding maestro Jack Robinson with silver.
