'Two Malaysia Games venues will be ready by this weekend'

KUALA LUMPUR: The Sarawak Malaysia Games begin next week but two venues are yet to be completed.

They are the Sarawak State Hockey Stadium in Padungan and the venue for BMX mountain cycling.

Sarawak State Sport Council director Awang Putrayusrie Awang Redzuan, however, said both the venues will be ready by this weekend.

"There was a delay in laying a new turf at Sarawak State Hockey Stadium in Padungan due to shipment issues of the new turf, which we just received.

"However, I promised that the new turf will be laid and completed by this Sunday to be used for the men's hockey competition."

Awang said the BMX venue is almost ready as the contractor just needs to fix the start gate at the track.

"A total of 30,000 athletes, officials, coaches and volunteers will be involved in the Sarawak Malaysia Games," said Awang.
