KUALA LUMPUR: Promising polo players from around the world will lock horns in the Malaysia Youth Polo Tournament which kicks off at the Selangor Polo Club tomorrow.
The under-20 competition features four teams - International All Stars, Global All Stars, Moiz Boys' and Malaysian All Stars - comprising players from Argentina, Australia, Canada, Croatia, India, Pakistan, Singapore and Malaysia.
Organising chairperson Natasha Mustapha said in addition to providing players with a platform to showcase their talents, the tournament also intends to promote cancer awareness through their partnership with National Cancer Society Malaysia.
"This tournament is to give our players the opportunity to compete against players from around the world. We invite international players and help facilitate their arrangements here," said Natasha during the opening ceremony today.
"Besides the competitive aspect, the tournament is also to allow the players to the chance to foster friendships and also raise awareness about cancer, which affects people of all ages, including youth."
Kuala Lumpur Academy of Polo (KLAP) coach Agha Murtaza Ali believes the tournament, which is in its third edition this year, plays an important role in local talent development.
"Tournaments like this are important to help boost development of Malaysian talent. We have a number of players here who have the potential to represent the nation at the Sea Games in the future," said Agha.
The tournament is being organised by KLAP with support from the Kuala Lumpur Polo Club, ReNIKOLA, B.GRIMM, Mamee-DoubleDecker, Zack's Tack, Majestic Horses and World of Feng Shui.
