KUALA LUMPUR: There was heartbreak for archer S. Suresh while the cyclists found it hard to make an impact in the road events at the Paris Paralympics today.
Suresh's campaign in the men's individual recurve came to an end in the round of 1/8 after losing 6-2 to Iran's Reza Arab Ameri at Esplanade des Invalides.
He had earlier defeated American Eric Bennett 6-2 in the round of 1/16.
Suresh was clearly disappointed to crash out of the tournament early.
The 2019 world champion said he was well prepared both mentally and physically but just had no answers against an in-form Reza.
"I thought I could go further and get a medal. I did my best and never expected to lose," Suresh told Bernama.
"I could have accepted if I had lost because I didn't perform well. But I can't because I gave it my best.
"I'm trying to control (my emotions), but I think I will burst into tears again after this."
In road cycling, Yusof Hafizi Shahruddin placed fifth from 10 riders in the men's C1 (physical impairment) individual time trial after completing the 14.1 kilometre course in 22 minutes and 27.91 seconds at Clichy-sous-Bois.
Adi Raimie Amizazahan settled for 10th in the men's C3 (physical impairment) individual time trial after crossing the line in 46:30.54s (28.3km).
Nur Suraiya Zamri and her pilot Farina Shawati Mohd Adnan fared similarly in the women's B (visual impairment) time trial after they clocked 50:48.55s (28.3km) to place 10th.
