KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian bodybuilder has been provisionally suspended by the Malaysian Anti-Doping Agency (ADAMAS) after testing positive for banned substances at the National Championships.
The sample, taken from the bodybuilder during the 53rd National Championships in Johor Baru from Aug 3-4, revealed the presence of prohibited substances, including Stanozolol and its metabolites such as Stanozolol‐1´N‐glucuronide and 16β-Hydroxy-stanozolol.
These substances fall under category S1.1 - Anabolic Androgenic Steroids (AAS), according to the World Anti-Doping Agency's (WADA) 2024 Prohibited List.
ADAMAS, in a media statement, said that it received the analysis results from the Anti-Doping Laboratory in Doha, Qatar, on Aug 28, and the athlete has been provisionally suspended pending a hearing and a final decision.
ADAMAS reminded all athletes that they are responsible for the substances found in their body.
"The athlete involved has been informed of the analysis results and has been given the opportunity to request an analysis of sample B if needed. The athlete has also been provisionally suspended from participating in any championships or competitions until the hearing process is completed and a final decision is made.
"The handling of this case will be conducted transparently in accordance with the ADAMAS 2021 Anti-Doping Rules and the International Standard for Results Management (ISRM), including the athlete's right to a fair hearing process as enshrined in the 2021 World Anti-Doping Code.
"The principle of Strict Liability applies to all athletes. This means that athletes are fully responsible for any substance found in their urine or blood samples, regardless of whether the substance was ingested intentionally or unintentionally.
"It is therefore crucial for all athletes and Athlete Support Personnel to comply with anti-doping regulations and understand their responsibilities under the World Anti-Doping Code," read ADAMAS statement.
