KOTA KINABALU: Following its successful debut last year, the Asia Triathlon Cup is making a comeback this Saturday.
The event, organised by the Sabah Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry, will take place at Tanjung Aru Beach near here.
With scenic race routes set against the stunning backdrop of the South China Sea and Kota Kinabalu's natural landmarks, the 2024 event promises a unique experience for both participants and spectators.
It draws 63 elite athletes—43 men and 20 women—from 13 countries, including Japan, Australia, the United States, and Great Britain, alongside several Southeast Asian nations.
The Asia Triathlon Cup 2024 will not only celebrate athletic excellence but will also highlight Sabah's rich cultural heritage, biodiversity, and tourism offerings.
Its minister Datuk Seri Christina Liew said the ministry aims to leverage this event to foster long-term interest in Sabah among international travelers and sports enthusiasts.
"The Asia Triathlon Cup is more than just a race; it's a chance to showcase the beauty, culture, and hospitality of Sabah.
"As the international sports community looks toward Sabah, we're thrilled to host an event that not only celebrates athleticism but also highlights our state as a destination for adventure and nature," she said in a statement.
