KUALA LUMPUR: The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) has yet to be briefed by the Youth and Sports Ministry regarding preparation plans to host the 2027 Sea Games in Malaysia.
OCM president Tan Sri Norza Zakaria said the umbrella body has yet to be called for a meeting with neither the Ministry nor the Sarawak state government, who are co-managing the 2027 games.
"We don't know yet (whether games' venues will be split evenly between the Klang Valley and Sarawak). We have to wait for the announcement," said Norza yesterday.
"We (OCM) are the custodian of the games, however, have not been called by the Ministry nor Sarawak.
"They have not explained to us what the concept for the games will be. We need to know this (concept) to table to the Sea Games Federation (SEAGF).
"They (Ministry) definitely have to call us for a meeting because we are the custodian of the games.
"So far we have submitted a letter of commitment (to host the games) from OCM and the Ministry to SEAGF during the last SEAGF meeting but basically that is it, because there have not been any details proposed yet."
Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh in August announced that the 2027 Games will be hosted here using a decentralised model - together with Sarawak and Penang - to reduce the financial burden on the federal government.
Sarawak has pledged roughly RM350 million for the games while Penang is allocating RM15 million. The games is expected to cost roughly RM700 million to host.
