KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's third seed Nik Izz Dameer Norifaizal advanced to the boys' Under-11 quarter-finals at the British Junior Open in Birmingham today.
Nik Izz secured his spot with a convincing 11-9, 11-5, 12-10 victory over England's ninth seed, James Swinden.
Nik Izz will face fifth seed Selim Soliman of Egypt in tomorrow's semi-finals.
In the boys' Under-19 category, top seed Harith Danial Jefri defeated England's Thomas Scott 14-12, 11-4, 11-1 to secure a fourth-round berth. Third seed Low Wa Sern also progressed, overcoming Japan's Ren Makino 11-7, 8-11, 11-6, 3-11, 11-4.
Wei Yan Tho, however, bowed out, losing 11-1, 11-3, 11-6 to England's third seed Abdallah Eissa in the third round.
In the boys' Under-17 event, fifth seed M. Nickhileswar edged Omair Athar of the United States 12-10, 11-4, 9-11, 11-9 to reach the fourth round.
Altamis Aqhar Sallam Sufian advanced after defeating Marc Voloshin of the United States 11-4, 7-2 (retired).
Aqil Mirza Naim Khairil Fariz exited in the third round following an 11-1, 11-8, 11-7 loss to England's Ismail Khalil.
Malaysia's campaign in the girls' Under-15, Under-17, and Under-19 categories came to an end in the third round.
