JAKARTA: Indonesian ride hailing and digital payment giant, Gojek, will fork out 100 billion rupiah (RM27 million) to help drivers cope with repercussions of the Covid-19 pandemic.
The sum will be sourced from salaries of senior management members in the company, a quarter of the year’s wages, and the budgeted salary increase due for all Gojek employees this year.
The funds would be donated to drivers and other partners who were dealing with the economic pressures of the pandemic, according to The Jakarta Post.
Gojek co-chief executive officer Andre Soelistyo said the company established the Gojek Partner Support Fund.
It would be managed by a new foundation, Yayasan Anak Bangsa Bisa, to ensure transparency and good governance in the disbursement of funds, he said on Tuesday.
All employees of the company were aware of the decision and agreed to donate 25 per cent of senior management-level staff salaries and all Gojek employees’ salary increases due for the year.
“We opened the opportunity for Gojek employees to contribute. They see this as fitting since the life and growth of Gojek as a company depends on the success of our partners,” said Andre.
Gojek has more than 1.7 million drivers in 167 cities and districts across Indonesia.
