KUALA LUMPUR: Hong Kong and Singaporeans police have dismantled an international prostitution ring involving Japanese adult film stars, with more than 30 suspects arrested in a crackdown.
According to the South China Morning Post, the syndicate reportedly charged clients up to HK$150,000 (RM85,993) for sexual services.
The organised crime and triad bureau Chief Inspector Tang Hoi-tung said Hong Kong police uncovered a locally-controlled group promoting Japanese sex workers through social media platforms.
She said it features provocative photos and adult film covers to attract clients.
The syndicate used hotels as meeting venues and took 50 per cent of the earnings.
Some sex workers, including well-known Japanese adult film actresses, attended fan gatherings where sexual services were arranged for high fees.
Over the past year, the group reportedly made 100 hotel bookings and earned more than HK$20 million.
So far, 39 individuals have been arrested including seven syndicate leaders, three Japanese sex workers in Hong Kong and one syndicate member and three Japanese sex workers in Singapore.
The operation, spanning Hong Kong, Macau, Singapore, and Japan, uncovered earnings of over HK$20 million and properties worth HK$17 million.
