SHAH ALAM: Low-cost airline, AirAsia Bhd, is optimistic of achieving the target of flying 1.5 million Malaysian passengers to Indonesia by year-end, in conjunction with Indonesia Tourism's 'Wonderful Indonesia' campaign.

Its chief executive officer, Aireen Omar, said the target was achievable and new passenger load’s aim would be renewed on year-to-year basis with Indonesia Tourism.

"In 2016, we flew over four million guests between both countries to contribute significantly to the tourist arrivals last year and this is only a fraction of the great potential we can achieve," Aireen told reporters on the sidelines of the signing of a partnership agreement with Indonesia’s Tourism Ministry here today.

She said the collaboration would see both parties focusing on marketing, brand advertising, promotional activities and other programmes including efforts in digital, print, radio, in-flight branding, travel fairs and others.

The airline flies over 350 times a week to 15 different Indonesian cities such as Banda Aceh, Bandung, Bali, Jakarta, Lombok, Medan, Pekanbaru, Palembang, Padang, Pontianak, Semarang, Solo, Surabaya, Makassar and Yogyakarta.

It recently increased frequencies to several routes in Indonesia and also launched direct flights from Kuching to Pontianak to meet the growing travel demand from both countries.

AirAsia, to boost the campaign, is currently offering promotional fares to Indonesia which can booked from today until Aug 6, 2017, for immediate travel dates until Feb 25, 2018.
