Ikea distribution centre to have spillover effect on Pulau Indah

PORT KLANG: IKEA’s new regional distribution and supply chain centre, to be located in the Pulau Indah Industrial Park, is expected to have a positive spillover effect and accelerate the socio-economic development of the area.

The 25.6-hectare centre, with a total gross development value of close to RM1 billion, is expected to be completed by September 2019.

Central Spectrum (M) Sdn Bhd, which is developing the centre, is optimistic at least 500 jobs wouldbe created in the process.

IKEA Pulau Indah would be the company’s third-largest furniture distribution hub after IKEA Chicago, USA and IKEA Dusseldorf, Germany, serving some 12 IKEA stores in ASEAN.

“We believe with IKEA’s establishment in Pulau Indah, many foreign investors, namely from China, Korea and Japan will also follow IKEA’s footsteps and set up their business in Pulau Indah,” General Manager (Development) Noor Azhuril Adnan told Bernama after presenting house keys to three Orang Asli families at the Orang Asli settlement here today

CSSB, which is undertaking the mammoth Selangor Bio Bay (SBB) project, constructed the houses for the families in a move to relocate them to the Pulau Indah Orang Asli settlement.

The RM5.5 billion SBB mixed-development project, sprawled over 433 hectares, would be built over three phases in 20 years.

It will entail a biotechnology research and development centre, commercial and industrial zones, residential units and recreational areas. – Bernama
