Zurich Takaful aims to open 30 new booths at Mydin stores

KUALA LUMPUR: Zurich Takaful Malaysia Bhd (Zurich Takaful) targets to open 30 takaful new retail booths from the current seven at selected Mydin Mohamed Holdings Bhd (Mydin) stores.

Zurich's present retail booths are at Mydin's stores in Senawang, Semenyih, Seremban 2, Subang Jaya, Malacca International Trade Centre, and Aman Central, Kedah since 6 May 2019.

Zurich Takaful chief executive officer Mukesh Dhawan said the retail takaful booth will be setup in phases at more than 60 Mydin stores nationwide.

“Over the past 3 months, Zurich had received engaging response and feedback from Mydin customers and with this new collaboration, the positive feedback will help in expanding takaful market opportunities in this country.

"At the moment, the booths only offer existing Zurich’s products to customers, but we will create more new product offerings based on customers feedback and experiences," he told reporters during a media briefing on the collaboration here today.

He said the takaful industry has been enjoying steady growth for the past few years however, there is a clear disparity in the protection levels between the B40 and non-B40 market segments, whereby the gap is particularly wide in states with large urban populations.

“There are only about 15 per cent of Malaysians that has takaful plan. With this partnership with Mydin and through the opening of the 30 new retail counters, I believe the potential for Zurich to grow and achieve our aim to be inclusive in the daily shopping list of the customers,” he said.

Mydin managing director Datuk Wira Dr Ameer Ali Mydin said Mydin pleased to have this kind of opportunities to enrich it customers lives by providing quality ‘halal’ products and services.

“Mydin plans to help in promoting Zurich Takaful product to our 400,000 loyalty cardholders (Meriah Loyalty Card) by offering simple and affordable takaful protection," Ameer said.

“The plan will focus more on selected target group of people, especially for low and medium income groups to make sure they are protected by Zurich Takaful insurance,” he added.
