Malaysian bourse opens flat in line with Wall Street's mixed showing

KUALA LUMPUR: Bursa Malaysia opened flat today, tracking Wall Street's mixed performance as traders await October's consumer price index which is due later today.

At 9.12am, the FTSE Bursa Malaysia (FBM) KLCI was up 0.07 per cent or 0.97 points to 1,446.15 versus Friday's close of 1,445.18.

The key index opened 0.28 points easier at 1,444.90.

The broader market saw gainers surpassed losers 235 to 164 while 326 counters remained unchanged.

Rakuten Trade Sdn Bhd equity research vice president Thong Pak Leng expects investors to remain sidelined today.

"The FBM KLCI will stay stuck within a narrow range of between 1,440 and 1,450 as investors are expected to remain sidelined.

"Nonetheless, we may see some accumulation on plantation and telco stocks today following a sudden sell-down last Friday," he noted.

On the global front, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 55 points, the Nasdaq lost 30 points with the US 10-year yield remaining flat at 4.64 per cent.

In Hong Kong, the Hang Seng Index jumped 223 points on optimism over the easing political tension due to the impending Xi Jinping-Joe Biden meeting.
