Bursa Malaysia's key index closed below the 1,600 level as investors reassessed US rate cut expectations following strong economic data.

The FBM KLCI lost 16 points to about 1,585.

It is likely to trend between 1,580 and 1,600 for the week.

The ringgit eased against the dollar to 4.5070.
