More Malaysians will soon have a new alternative to get their daily coffee fix, after Costa Coffee, the world’s second largest coffee brand, agreed to expand its footprint over the next 12 months.
Currently, Costa Coffee has set up self-serve coffee vending machines at 71 Shell stations. It hopes to expand to over 200 Shell Select Retail stores same time next year.
“We are delighted to extend our global presence with our launch in Malaysia, a dynamic, desirable and thriving country with an established coffee culture. The scale of Shell in Malaysia, as well as our well established multi-market partnership gave us the ideal platform from which to roll out our brand.
“Through our partnership with Shell and our world-leading on-the-go proposition, we will transform customer perception about the quality of on-the-go coffee available in Shell Select stores, just as we did in the United Kingdom, increasing the appeal of Shell sites to their customers and giving customers more reasons to visit more often,” said Costa Express (trading as Costa Coffee in Malaysia) managing director Scott Martin during the launching ceremony here.
Costa Coffee was founded in 1971. Its self-serve vending machine is designed by the luxury Italian design house Pininfarina, which is famous for designing Ferraris. Each self-serve vending machine serves Costa Coffee’s signature blend, Mocha Italia. With 200 combinations, the opportunity to customise a drink is endless; from adding fresh milk, to selecting indulgent flavoured syrups.
“We’re upgrading our stores to include a food oasis so our customers can have a better retail experience on-the-go. The partnership with Costa is in-line with our mission to enhance our customers’ retail experience. Now, customers and coffee enthusiasts can enjoy quality coffee on-the-go; and we hope Malaysians will visit Shell Select to experience the convenience and taste of Costa Coffee,” said Shell Malaysia Trading Sdn Bhd and Shell Timur Sdn Bhd managing director Shairan Huzani Hussain.
