Style it like Izzah

Here’s a step-by-step guide to get the look, writes Nadia Badarudin

Post the country’s 14th general elections, Nurul Izzah Anwar’s way of styling her tudung bawal (voile, square headscarf) becomes a hit, thanks to her many appearances on TV. The tudung bawal has always been the Permatang Pauh MP’s favourite but the current media attention she receives made the style even more popular.

On Twitter, women are commenting on the style, with many saying they want to style it like her for the coming Hari Raya Aidilfitri.

She even posted a tutorial on her Instagram account, following requests. And if you are looking for a step-by-step guide, we invited celebrity hijab stylist Didiyana Ehsan over, to show you how to do it.

Step 1 – After wearing your inner, fold an edge of the square tudung into a small triangle.  

Step 2 – Place the tudung with the triangle side above your forehead (the folded side beneath it) and let the right edge fall slightly longer than the left.     

Step 3 – Neatly pleat the tudung (on the right) and bring it under your chin.

Step 4 – Pull the folded area from your chin towards underneath your left earlobe.

Step 5 – Let the top part on the left falls nicely and secure it together with the inner as well as the piece tucked underneath your left earlobe with a brooch.

Step 6 – Bring the extra length of the tudung from the left side to the middle spot on top of your head.  

Step 7 – Secure it with a needle pin.
