HONG KONG: Award-winning Hong Kong superstar Andy Lau returns to play the corrupt cop Lee Rock, in Chasing The Dragon which opens in Malaysian cinemas on Thursday.
The artiste who will turn 56 on the same day, has played the same character in the 1991 award-winning movie, To Be Number One.
When met, he told the Malaysian media who were specially flown here today, that he was looking forward to see fans' reactions on his role in the remake of the film based on the true story of the drug dealer named Crippled Ho.
In the 1991 movie, Lau acted alongside actor Ray Lui (who played Ho), but in this new film, the gangster is played by top action star Donnie Yen.
Best known for his role as the Wing Chun grandmaster in the 2008 movie Ip Man, Yen said that he enjoyed playing a baddie.
“Although he's not someone who had an exemplary life and career, there's still something good audience will take home,” said the 54-year-old who decides to take on the antagonistic role for the first time in his career.
Both stars are also the co-producers for Chasing The Dragon.
Also present at the special interview for the Malaysian press was Garuna Murthee, the director of Lotus Five Star, the film distributor for Malaysia.
