KUALA LUMPUR: A cancer patient herself, singer-actress Elyana Emrizal believes that helping fellow Malaysians suffering from the Big C gives her the strength to battle hers.
The star of Dukun and Dunia Baru The Movie is currently reaching out to women and children with cancer through her own Tabung Kanser Elyana (Elyana Cancer Fund) which was recently set up by the Education Ministry's Puspanita (Association of Wives and Women in the Malaysian Public Service).
“I’ve always wanted to meet and support cancer patients. We can help one another by having makeover activities which will give us positive vibes and a new determination to battle illness and eventually get well. Women who look good, feel good and become more confident to confront life’s challenges," she said at the launch of her fund at Spoon Steakhouse Restaurant in Wangsa Maju here yesterday.
Elyana who is suffering from stage 4 lymphoma, said she wanted to speak with the families of cancer patients, and share viewpoints with them on how they could boost the spirits of their loved ones.
When asked about the fund, Elyana said she was touched by Puspanita’s kind gesture. “Puspanita has always helped women and children in need, and I’m honoured to work closely with them in being a friend to fellow cancer patients.”
She also said the fund helped reduce her medical expenditure and that of other Malaysians suffering from the disease.
The fund was established in conjunction with the Puspanita Carnival 2018 which will take place in Putrajaya on May 12.
Proceeds from the carnival’s Srikandi Run will go to Elyana’s fund as well as Tabung Amal Silaturahim Rakan-Rakan Rockers Otai Klang, a fund for veteran rockers from Klang.
“Every RM1 from the run will go to our funds,” added Elyana.
