#Showbiz: Photo of Maggie Cheung looking haggard worries fans

KUALA LUMPUR: Former beauty queen and award-winning Hong Kong actress Maggie Cheung last appeared in the 2010 film Hot Summer Days.

Entertainment portal AsiaOne reported last Tuesday that fans of the 55-year-old actress are concerned about her health and well-being, since a screenshot of her most "recent" social media appearance revealed that she looked haggard.

The photo showed Cheung's appearance on the Chinese variety show Master Of The House in June 2019 and it went viral on Chinese social media network Weibo last weekend.

Many Netizens who viewed the photo remarked that Cheung looked like she was 70, and vastly different from her glamorous images in films such as In The Mood For Love (2000) and Centre Stage (1992).

However, other photos of Cheung from the variety show have since appeared on social media, showing her in a more favourable light.

Some Netizens believe that Cheung could have been cast in an unflattering light due to the angle of the camera and the lighting at the venue where her interview was conducted.

Furthermore, she did not put on much make-up during the interview.

The Netizens also said that Cheung had not lost her vigour on stage, as she sang and danced with singers much younger than her in the show.

Cheung began her acting career in 1984 and has starred in more than 80 films and six television dramas.

Her best known collaborator on screen has been Tony Leung Chiu-Wai who appeared with her in the 1984 drama series Police Cadet and films as The Banquet (1991), Ashes Of Time (1994), In The Mood For Love and Hero (2002).
