#Showbiz: BlackPink's Lisa breaks down crying over grandfather's passing

KUALA LUMPUR: Lisa of international K-Pop group BlackPink recently revealed on popular Chinese competition show, Youth With You: Season 3, that her grandfather had died on her birthday last month.

The talented idol is a mentor on the iQiyi series which aims to select the best trainees to eventually form a boy band.

According to Koreaboo yesterday, she was at the time offering words of comfort to a trainee whose father had died just before his concept evaluation performance.

The trainee, named Liu Jun, said: "The morning I was assigned to the team, I was told my dad had passed away. So for the last performance that he knew I'd be doing, I wanted to do my best. But I should've been with him, not wasting my time here."

After extending her condolences, she said: "I know how you feel right now. You're like a warrior. I can see you work really hard. And you're tough."

Lisa then revealed that her grandfather had died on her 24th birthday which fell on March 27.

Unfortunately, the Thai national was not able to attend his funeral or spend time with him during his last few days.

"What I have to say is, on my last birthday a few weeks ago, my grandfather, he passed away that day. I haven't seen him for two years," she said.

Lisa added that the last time she was able to see him was during BlackPink's world tour when the group was performing in her home country.

"I was touring in Thailand and he came for my concert," she said.

Lisa then began to tear up and voiced her regret at not being able to spend more time with her grandfather.

"I didn't even have a chance to say goodbye to him. But I know he'll always be with me. So I believe your dad will be the same as well," she said.

When Liu Jun told her that he would continue to work hard for the sake of his father, Lisa said: "Let's do this for our family."

Meanwhile, rumours have been going on that Lisa would be releasing her debut solo album this year.

Apparently, industry sources have recently revealed that it would be dropping in June.

In a report by the Korea Herald, an official from BlackPink's label, YG Entertainment, had said that Lisa was still working hard on the upcoming album.

The person also declined to offer a release date and added that a finalised schedule would be announced once the time was right via official channels.
