#Showbiz: 12 veteran newscasters return to TV3 for station's 38th anniversary

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 12 veteran TV3 newscasters are making a "comeback" to their former television station this week, specially for the station's 38th anniversary on June 1.

They are Datuk Ras Adiba Radzi, Datuk Dahlan Maamor, Rosli Dahamin, Fuad Rahman, Datuk Jasni Shafie, Abu Bakar Atan, Zainal Ariffin Ismail, Ezzah Aziz Fawzy, Nurfarahin Jamsari, Azmi Aziz, Azura Abdul Karim, and Zakiah Anas.

A statement from TV3 today said that the icons of prime time news slot Buletin Utama would be taking turns to appear alongside the current crop of newscasters between 8pm and 9pm every night from now until June 1.

Every veteran will get a chance to read either the main news segment or the sports news segment, with one of his or her "juniors".

Each male veteran will partner a contemporary female newscaster, while each female veteran will partner a contemporary male newscaster.

Azmi, 49, who served as a newscaster from 1997 to 2005 and is currently a businessman based in his hometown Kota Kinabalu, Sabah said that it was great to be back and catch up with the new batch of newscasters.

"It's also good to meet up with many of my old friends who are still serving the station faithfully. While reading the news with my successors, I'll share lots of interesting stories and lessons with them," he said at Seri Pentas, Bandar Utama, Petaling Jaya today.

Bakar, 60, said that he greatly enjoyed being a sports newscaster on TV3 for 26 years beginning 1993.

"Back then, I did not have the luxury of reading about football clubs from other countries at the click of a button, and I had to rely a lot on magazines, some of which were fully in languages that I did not understand," he said.

"And the key to getting good sports stories was to make friends with footballers from each state team, even going to the karaokes with them!"

There will also be a special report on TV3's 38-year journey, and this will feature major milestones of the country's first private television station.

The report will focus on TV3's best known programmes such as Anugerah Juara Lagu, Majalah Tiga, Nona, Jejak Rasul, Malaysia Hari ini, Wanita Hari Ini and 999.

TV3 is also conducting a TikTok search for its short news programme Buletin TV3 from now until May 31.

Opened to Malaysians aged 19 to 30, it requires applicants to submit minute-long audition videos of them reading news reports in English, Malay or both languages.

These videos should be uploaded on their TikTok accounts with the hashtags WajahbaharuBuletinTV3, #PenyampaiBuletinTV3 and #BuletinTV3.
