#Showbiz: 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' returns to Malaysian cinemas in September with extended cut

KUALA LUMPUR: Fans of Spider-Man will get to see the popular superhero's latest movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home, again in cinemas this September as an extended cut dubbed The More Fun Stuff Version.

This follows last month's announcement on the official social Twitter account for Spider-Man: No Way Home that read: "You wanted more Spidey and you got it! #SpiderManNoWayHome: The More Fun Stuff Version swings into movie theaters in the US and Canada September 2! More countries to be announced soon!"

A recent post on the same account updated the other release dates for the mega-successful movie which premiered globally in December last year to critical and commercial acclaim.

The entry featured an image that listed the 34 countries from various continents including Spain, Brazil, Syria, Kuwait, Ethiopia, Australia and Taiwan that would see the release of the movie in cinemas, beginning with Indonesia on Aug 31.

The new version of Spider-Man: No Way Home will be opening in Malaysian cinemas on Sept 8 similar with Singapore and Germany.

Other Southeast Asian territories included in the list were Vietnam (Sept 2) and the Philippines (Sept 7), while South Korea would be the last country to enjoy movie on Sept Oct 6.

So far, no other details on the new version which is expected to include extended and previously unreleased scenes have been disclosed.

The original cinematic cut of Spider-Man: No Way Home which featured a lengthy duration of 148 minutes was an instant success which collected a whopping USD1.9 billion (RM8.46 billion) at the global box office.

It was reported that the latest instalment of the Spider-Man franchise has become the first pandemic-era movie to cross over the USD1 billion mark internationally which also made it the highest-grossing movie of 2021.

The movie is currently sitting at third place as the highest-grossing superhero movie of all time below Avengers: Endgame (2019) which collected USD2.79 billion (RM12.42 billion) and Avengers: Infinity War (2018) that raked in USD2.04billion (RM9.08 billion) at the global box office.

Produced by Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, Spider-Man: No Way Home will be the third Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie to receive a theatrical re-release following Avengers: Endgame and Spider-Man: Far From Home both in 2019.
