#Showbiz: New generation of TV hosts are not bold enough, says Ogy

KUALA LUMPUR: Veteran actress Fauziah Ahmad Daud says many of today's TV hosts are not bold enough and less daring when probing their interviewees with questions.

The 60-year-old artiste who was a popular host for TV3's entertainment variety programme Melodi through the 1990s said that a TV host's responsibility should go beyond the script provided by the producer.

"A host should be able to look at an issue from various perspectives, so that her questions would dig deeper than merely covering the surface.

"For that, one cannot be complacent. If you're complacent, you will not develop further than merely being a host created from a 'template'," she said in a Harian Metro news report today.

Fauziah, who is fondly known as Ogy added that during her Melodi heydays, she also injected a little bit of comedic element in her hosting, a talent she inherited from her father, the late legendary singer and actor Datuk Ahmad Daud.

"One must also find his or her own identity. To create mine, I combined my acting and hosting skills, peppered with some comedy," she said.

Fauziah also said TV hosts should always try to get hold of their scripts in advance, so that they would be able to avoid asking awkward questions which may embarrass their interviewees.

"Seeing the scripts early will help one be well prepared for the interview."
