KUALA LUMPUR: Kai of popular K-Pop group EXO will be enlisting for his mandatory military service next week.
The surprising announcement was shared by the music group's agency, SM Entertainment, on Wednesday, Soompi reported.
Part of the statement read: "Kai was preparing for EXO's comeback scheduled for this year, but due to a recent change in regulations of the Military Manpower Administration, he is set to report to the army recruit training centre on May 11, where he will receive basic military training, and he will then serve as a public service worker."
The company added that his enlistment location and time would not be disclosed and that no special event would be held on that day.
"This is in line with respecting Kai's privacy on the matter and we hope that fans will understand.
"Regarding the plans for EXO's album, we will announce the details once everything is sorted out," said SM Entertainment.
Meanwhile, the agency revealed yesterday that it would be organising a fan meet event for Kai on May 9 at the YES 24 Live Hall in Seoul, South Korea.
The free event will also be streamed live on EXO's official YouTube channel.
