#JOM! GO: Singapore's Largest Annual Food Festival Returns

The Singapore Food Festival is back after a two year hiatus with a feast of over 70 gastronomic experiences, writes Alan Teh Leam Seng.

THE wait is finally over. For the first time since the Covid-19 andemic, Singapore Food Festival 2022 (SFF 2022) is back in its usual physical format to offer in-person experiences which include workshops, tours and exclusive menus at partner restaurants.

The event is now on until Sept 11 at the Bayfront Event Space, a large entertainment center in Singapore.

The highlight of this two-week long culinary extravaganza is the Festival Village which gives opportunity to visitors to savour wide food options from over 25 food establishments.

Drawing strength from its catchy 'Real Foodies Only' tagline, this year's line-up features familiar favourites with various innovative twists.

Look out for Jelebu Dry Laksa's signature dish topped with Boston lobster and tiger prawns while Singapore's hottest food truck The Goodburger is sizzling with Blue Lotus Eating House on a SFF-exclusive plant-based golden chilli crab burger.

Not confined to just Downtown Singapore, SFF 2022 also embraces the participation of various restaurants island-wide to offer an array of festival-exclusive dishes.

Topping the list is an amazing bagelwich which pays homage to the melting pot of cultures in Singapore. The brainchild of Holland Village's Two Men Bagel House, it is a gastronomic paradise of aromatic Malay, Indian and Chinese curry flavours.

At the same time, adventurous foodies can sign up for various tours and workshops happening around the island during the festival period.

Not to be missed are trips by Atlas Aquaculture and Blue Aqua to land-based urban fish and shrimp farms where methods to reduce food shortages are efficiently employed to ensure sufficient supplies for future generations.

These experiences highlight the event's three core themes – "Heritage" featuring Hawker Heroes Collective, "Contemporary" featuring local restaurants with exclusive menus and "Innovative" featuring food sources from sustainable farming.

BEYOND THE CAUSEWAY

Held in conjunction with SFF 2022, Passport to Feast in Malaysia is a two-month-long culinary event organised by the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) for Malaysians to indulge in a plethora of gastronomic experiences.

Passport To Feast lets Malaysian foodies indulge in Singapore's fast evolving dining scene and enjoy new, innovative and reimagined experiences in their own backyard.

The event is divided into two sections, giving diners the opportunity to experience exciting bar and restaurant takeovers, pop-ups and private kitchen adventures, all by chefs and bartenders from Singapore's leading establishments and set amongst Malaysia's finest offerings.

Kicking off with Passport to Feast: The SG Takeover, this segment hosts a series of bar and restaurant experiences headlined by talented Singapore chefs and mixologists set within nine renowned Malaysian establishments.

Until Sept 6, local dining enthusiasts can look forward to well-curated culinary escapades like Kausmo at Cuiscene (Aug 29-30), Analogue & Native at Reka:Bar (Sept 1) and Restaurant Born at Dewakan (Sept 6).

The event then culminates with the SG at The Yard held in conjunction with Tiffin at The Yard.  The 10-day Singapore-themed food marketplace-styled event features a parade of celebrated chefs and mixologists from bars and restaurants from all over the Lion City.

From Sept 9, Malaysians can whet their appetites at Tiffin at The Yard while indulging in a variety of food pop-ups as well as private kitchen dining experiences from Scaled by Ah Hua Kelong and Chef Sarah Huang Benjamin.

At the same time, STB is also partnering with Trip.com, as Passport to Feast's official travel partner, to offer Malaysian foodies with attractive deals that coincide with the Passport to Feast events.

Travellers making reservations on Trip.com will get to enjoy RM50 off flight tickets and 20% off tours and attraction tickets in Singapore from Aug 12 onwards.
