Bavarian fiesta in Penang

KUALA LUMPUR: Penang Swimming Club will host its 5th Oktoberfest celebrations at the club’s multi-purpose hall in Tanjong Bungah on Oct 10.

Organising committee chairman Manfred Wiedenmaier said the club’s biggest event of the year was planned for members and guests to enjoy a wonderful night.

“The event is aimed to assimilate German culture and ideas into all aspects of the event to create a Bavarian atmosphere and also to showcase authentic Oktoberfest elements in terms of food, beverage, entertainment and ambience,” said Wiedenmaier.

He said guests and members would be entertained by a Bavarian band from Germany and be treated to traditional Bavarian dishes and German pastries by renowned chef, Ingolf Kneipe.

He said German traditional games including arm wrestling and finger-pulling would also be part of the programme as well as lucky draw.

Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng, who is also the club’s honorary member, will grace the event.
