Two motorcyclists killed in accidents

BUTTERWORTH: A 34-year-old bank clerk died after succumbing to his injuries in an accident at Jalan Lahar Kepartian near Penang here yesterday.

In the 4.30pm incident, Sofyan Ismail, who was riding his motorcycle from Penaga heading towards Sungai Petani was believed to have lost control of his vehicle and skidded to the left side of the road.

North Seberang Perai district police chief Assistant Commissioner of Police Azmi Adam said the Sofyan was rushed to the Kepala Batas Hospital for treatment.

"However, he died at 6.35pm while receiving emergency treatment," he said.

He said the case will be investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Meanwhile, a former workshop staff died on the spot after his motorcycle collided with an oncoming motorcycle at Jalan Permatang Pauh here yesterday.

In the 7.50pm incident, Ng Nyin Piew, 39, who was riding from Permatang Pauh to Mak Mandin was believed to have entered the opposite lane and crashed with Yong Peng, 45, who was heading towards Permatang Pauh.

Ng died on the spot while Yong, who suffered serious head injuries, was rushed to the Seberang Jaya Hospital here for treatment.

Central Seberang Perai district police chief Assistant Commissioner of Police Rusli Mohd Noor said post mortem revealed that Ng died of severe head injuries.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, " he added.
