PENAMPANG: A senior citizen was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital here after being hurt in a flash flood at 3pm yesterday.
Incessant rain from noon until night had caused flash floods at Kg Kibabaig, Kg Kivatu, Kg Kolopis, Taman Shang Ri La, Taman Sahabat and Jalan Minintod.
The Fire and Rescue Department had also evacuated 52 people to within the district.
The team also rescued a man who was stuck at a tree after he was swept away by the current.
There were several minor landslides at those affected areas but only one homestay at Kg Kivatu was damaged.
As of midnight, the water started to subside and the Moyog river went down below alert level.
In Kota Kinabalu, 120 people were evacuated to the surau of Kampung Deraman in Sepanggar.
Affected areas included Jalan Sepanggar, Vista Kironggu, Jalan Kolam, Jalan Tembuovo and Kampung Bantayan.
The flash flood also submerged roads at Jalan Kibabaig, Taman Sahabat, Jalan Menggatal heading to Tuaran, and Kg Deraman.
The operation, which ended past midnight, involved 48 personnel from here, Kota Kinabalu and Lintas stations.
