Hope lost: Body of one of two corporals missing off Pulau Perak found

ALOR STAR: A search and rescue (SAR) operation has recovered the body of one of two army corporals who went missing after falling into the sea on Monday at Pulau Perak, 66 nautical miles southwest of Langkawi.

It is learnt that the body was found 30 nautical miles from the island by the Navy special force (Paskal) team at about 10.45am today.

The identity of the corporal has not been determined. The body will be taken to Butterworth, Penang, where family members will be called in to make positive identification.

The body is expected to arrive at Butterworth at about 12.30pm.

It was reported that Corporal Johbartlee Kanil, 32, and Corporal Mohd Faizol Rosli, 29, were believed to have fallen into the sea while collecting water from a cliff on the rocky island at 4.40pm on Monday.

Both are attached to the 4th Royal Ranger Regiment based in Oran, Perlis and on a month-long operation on the island.

The SAR mission has been carried out around the island using three Navy vessels and a helicopter, while the scuba and paskal team joined the operation on Wednesday.

Johbartlee is from Sabah, while Faizol is from Baling, Kedah.
