Alleged fraudster selling expired cooking oil in mineral water bottles

PARIT BUNTAR: The State Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism office raided a business premise at Pekan Batu 5, Jalan Baru, here for selling cooking oil past its expiry date.

Parit Buntar branch head Mohd Fazly Edros said the operation team, which raided the business at 3.45pm yesterday, found the oil had been repacked in mineral water bottles.

"Checks found that the operator had been selling the oil in 1.5 litre bottles for RM3.30 each for the last week.

"Boxes containing the bottles had been misleadingly labelled 'minyak sembahyang' (oil for religious rituals).

“The shop owner claims that the oil was meant for rituals, (nevertheless)… it is an offence to rebrand the product as such.

"We are also concerned that the oil would be misused," said Fazly.

The operator was issued a RM1,000 compound under the Price Control Order (labelling by manufacturers, importers, producers and wholesalers) 1980.
