Pan Borneo Highway: Last eight work packages for construction of first phase launched

MIRI: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak today launched the last eight work packages for the construction of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sarawak.

Costing RM12.5 billion, the eight packages comprise construction and upgrading works of roads from Sematan to Pujut.

The work packages are as follows:

- 95km stretch from Sematan to Sungai Moyan bridge and the Kuching-Serian roundabout interchange.

- 89km stretch from Pantu junction-Batang Skrang.

- 68km stretch from Batang Skrang-Sungai Awik

- 64km stretch from Sungai Awik to Bintagor Junction.

- 64km stretch from Sungai Kua bridge-Sungai Arip.

- 65km stretch Sungai Arip-Bintulu junction.

- 77km stretch from Bakun to Sungai Tangap junction.

- 80km stretch Sungai Tangap to Pujut Link road

There are a total of 11 work packages for the first phase of the Pan Borneo Highway in Sarawak involving the construction of new roads, and upgrading works of present roads, with a total span of 1,098km, from Telok Melano to Sematan.

Fully funded by the Federal Government, the project comprises a total of 115 bridges, 25 interchanges and 202 pairs of P-turns, which will be built along the RM16.5 billion highway, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2021.

The highway will also feature 832 bus shelters, 56 pedestrian bridges, three rest and service areas and six laybys.

Present during the ceremony were Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof and Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem, leading an entourage from the state government.
