MELAKA: The state police is urging more people to join and sign up for 'Op Selamat' during the Hari Raya season, following this year's results.
State police chief Datuk Abdul Jalil Hassan said all 1,074 homes of residents registered under the state police department received positive feedback following the end of the Raya holiday period.
"The 'Op Selamat' method is very useful and beneficial to the public. A total of 2,168 patrol rounds were conducted day and night over the past two weeks," he told a press conference at the state police headquarters, today.
‘Op Selamat' for the Raya holidays took place from June 18 to July 2.
Abdul Jalil advised residents to sign up for the initiative for festive periods. He said residents can sign up via three methods - by filling up a form, using the Volunteer Smartphone Patrol application via smartphone, or contacting the nearby police station.
He also touched on the rise in accident rates for the holiday period, from 795 cases in 2016 to 875 cases this year.
"There were no changes in the fatality rate. However, accidents involving vehicles increased by 23.6 per cent, from 1,369 to 1,692 cases," he said.
