Indonesians entering Sarawak using 'rat lanes' nabbed by soldiers on patrol

LUNDU: Four Indonesians who entered Sarawak illegally were nabbed by soldiers from the Royal Armoured Corps on patrol at Kandaie on Sunday.

A spokesman from the First Malaysian Infantry Division said the personnel, who were carrying out an operation at the border of Kalimantan Barat, Indonesia, spotted the men, aged between 28 and 40, at about 10.30am, acting suspiciously.

He said it was revealed that the men, who were riding on two motorcycles, had intended to carry out cyanide fishing at a nearby area.

“The army personnel surrounded the men and apprehended them for further checks.

“The group failed to produce valid travel documents upon inspection,” he said.

He said the patrolling team had also found items used for cyanide fishing to be used at a nearby river.

He said the men, who had used rat lanes to enter the country, were surrendered to Lundu district police headquarters.
