SEREMBAN: Water service company Hatimuda Sdn Bhd was fined RM180,000 by the Sessions Court today for operating without a licence.
The company's technical director Mohd Sofi Ibrahim, who represented the company, nodded in understanding as the decision was meted out by Judge Maimoonah Aid after hearing submissions by National Water Services Commission (SPAN) prosecuting officer Nur Hayati Zakaria.
Hatimuda faced two charges of operating a public water supply system without holding individual licences granted under the Water Services Industry Act 2006.
The offences were committed on Oct 27, 2015, at the Sungai Terip and Ngoi Ngoi water treatment plants at KM10 Jalan Jelebu Mukim Pantai here.
Nur Hayati urged the court to mete out a heavy punishment against the company as it involved public interest and to serve as a lesson to the public.
Maimoonah then fixed fine at RM90,000 for each charge, to be paid in a lump sum.
Hatimuda was represented by counsel Mohd Jamil Yaacob.
