Johor syndicate falsifying documents busted

JOHOR BARU: The Johor Immigration Department busted a syndicate falsifying immigration documents following a raid at a house in Senai on Sunday.

Its director Baharuddin Tahir said the raid at a house in Taman Senai Jaya was conducted following a complaint and surveillance conducted by the department.

"During the raid, we arrested a 38-year-old man known as Bagas who we believe is the mastermind of the syndicate. We also arrested two Indonesian women, including Bagas' wife, and an Indonesian man who is believed to be a client," said Baharuddin.

He said they also seized a laptop computer, printer, 11 valid Indonesian passports, four expired Indonesian passports, one false temporary work permit sticker and 18 I-Kad.

"We also seized 23 false Covid-19 laboratory test reports from a private hospital," Baharuddin told reporters at the department's state headquarters, here.

He said initial investigation showed that Bagas has been in Malaysia for seven years and is a holder of a valid work permit.

"The suspect is very competent in information technology as he is able to falsify the documents.

"The syndicate charged between RM120 and RM250 for each document. We also found that the syndicate became more active during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period due to increased demand," said Baharuddin.

He said the suspects have been remanded for 14 days beginning Sunday and the case is being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and the Passport Act 1966.
