Guan Eng called in for questioning

GEORGE TOWN: DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng arrived at the northeast district police headquarters here this afternoon to have his statement recorded in relation to two press releases issued by him in 2019.

He was accompanied by his lawyers Ramkarpal Singh and RSN Rayer.

Contacted by the New Straits Times, Ramkarpal confirmed that the Bagan member of parliament arrived at the district police headquarters at about 2.30pm.

"He is having his statement recorded now.

"Yes, it is with regards to the two press releases issued by him in 2019," he said.

Lim was supposed to be called in on Christmas eve to have his statement taken.

However, police cancelled the session a day before.

"The Inspector-General of Police (Tan Sri Abdul Hamid Bador) had graciously apologised in a text message to me for his officer's oversight in fixing the recording of my statement on Christmas Eve.

"I thanked him for his Christmas greetings to me and my family," Lim was quoted as saying then.

Lim had revealed then that police had called him in for questioning over two press releases issued by him in 2019.

He had called the investigation a continuation of Perikatan Nasional's "persecution" of the opposition.
