Zahid applies to get back passport, plans to fly to Munich for treatment

KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has applied to get his passport released, citing the need to continue his medical treatment overseas.

Zahid's counsel Hamidi Mohd Noh made the application before High Court judge Datuk Collin Lawrence Sequerah today.

"My client has been suffering from neck and back pain.

"His current pain intervention treatment is not sufficient enough to reduce the pain," he said.

Sequerah said he will make the decision on Monday.

Hamidi when met after proceedings said Zahid would have to travel to Munich for a month to seek medical treatment on his spine injuries he sustained as a result of a fall at his house.

"We need to get the passport before Oct 26 and will return it back to the court on Nov 21," he said.

Deputy public prosecutor Gan Peng Kun did not object to the application.

"We were ordered not to object the application," he said.

It was reported that Zahid was admitted under the case of the Avisena Specialist Hospital, in Shah Alam on Aug 22 due to injuries he sustained as a result of a fall.

Zahid, 68, is facing 47 charges, including 12 for CBT, eight for corruption and 27 for money laundering involving RM31 million of Yayasan Akalbudi funds.

For the 12 CBT charges, Zahid was alleged to have used the funds to make payments for personal credit cards, insurance policies and licence for his personal vehicles, remittances to a law firm and contributions to the Royal Malaysian police football association.
