Ex-diplomat, son charged with trafficking ganja, storing cannabis oil

BENTONG: A former diplomat and his son were charged in the Magistrate's Court here, today for trafficking cannabis and storing cannabis oil at their house, on May 21.

Datuk Zainal Abidin Alias, 78 and his son Mohamed Riza Zainal Abidin, 53 pleaded not guilty to the charge of storing cannabis oil while no confession was recorded for the charge of trafficking cannabis.

They were charged under Section 9 (1) (b) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 and Section 39B (1) (a) of the same act.

Meanwhile, Riza was also charged under Section 15 (1) (a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act and pleaded not guilty.

Based on the facts of the case, both of them were accused of storing cannabis oil weighing 60 millilitres (ml) in a house in Kampung Sum-Sum Hilir, Janda Baik.

For other charges, the two were charged with possession of 1,020 grams of cannabis in the same place.

The charge was read before Magistrate Shahrul Ekhsan Hashim and the case was prosecuted by Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohammad Khalid.

The accused was represented by lawyers Rahmat Hazlan, Tania Scivetti and Kamil Azman.

The court set June 13 as the case re-mention date.
